About this trek
Roopkund brings together almost everything the Garhwal has to offer in one trek: village homestays, deep oak forest, the widest meadows in the country, a high camp at Bhagwabasa and a steep final climb to the lake. It is a demanding trek with a long summit day, and it needs both fitness and respect for the altitude.

Day 1
Rishikesh to Wan Village
Rishikesh → Wan Village
Long road day through Karnaprayag and Tharali to the base village.

Day 2
Wan to Gerolipatal
Wan → Gerolipatal
A steady forest climb out of Wan to the first camp.

Day 3
Gerolipatal to Ali Bugyal
Gerolipatal → Ali Bugyal
Forest gives way to the meadow, with Trishul and Nanda Ghunti directly ahead.

Ali Bugyal to Patar Nachaunia
Ali Bugyal → Patar Nachaunia
A meadow traverse past Bedani Kund and a climb to the last grass camp.

Day 5
Patar Nachaunia to Bhagwabasa via Kalu Vinayak
Patar Nachaunia → Kalu Vinayak → Bhagwabasa
A short, steep day onto scree. The high camp is cold and exposed — an early night before the summit push.

Day 6
Roopkund summit, back to Bedani Bugyal
Bhagwabasa → Roopkund → Bedani Bugyal
Pre-dawn climb to the lake, then a long descent all the way back to the meadows.

Bedani Bugyal to Wan
Bedani Bugyal → Wan
Descend through Gerolipatal and the Wan forest.

Day 8
Wan to Rishikesh
Wan → Rishikesh
Drive out. Expect to reach Rishikesh in the evening.
